It’s Back to School!

Chiropractic Care should be on your “Back to School” list.  The return to school can be a stressful time for parents and children.  Here are our tips for a healthy start to a new school year! 

Backpack Safety 

Back pain is becoming more common in children and teens. If your child’s backpack is not worn properly it can cause misalignment and back pain. Your child may think it looks cool to wear their backpack on one shoulder; however, both shoulder straps should be worn and adjusted to fit snugly around their shoulders. Look for a backpack that has wide padded straps. It is important that the weight of the backpack does not exceed 10% of your child’s body weight.  

Avoid “Text Neck” 

Remind your children to properly read books, tablets, and smartphones. Most of our children are in the habit of sitting with their head tilted forward going over the top of their shoulders, staring down at a screen. Teach them to be aware of their posture while on their screens or when reading a book. By keeping good posture and giving their eyes occasional breaks, our students can alleviate headaches as well as neck and shoulder pain. 

Sit Up Straight! 

Your child will greatly reduce their chance of suffering from back, neck, and shoulder pain if cognizant of how they sit. Teach your children about proper posture while seated, which means books and tablets at eye level, feet flat on the floor, and backs up against the back of their seat...no slouching!! 

Chiropractic Adjustments 

Chiropractic adjustments align the spine and help the nervous system function optimally. This can help coordinate all the body systems, such as the immune system. A healthy immune system can stave off the annoying seasonal colds and viruses.
