It’s National Chiropractic Health Month!

This month’s theme is “Chiropractic: On the Frontline for Pain”. I wouldn’t expect someone who is not a chiropractor to get excited about this in the way one might for National Pizza Month. But you may know someone in pain, maybe even personally. Perhaps you were considering consulting with a chiropractor for this issue, but you weren’t sure if you should? Well, here are 4 reasons why you may be extremely happy with your decision if you were to act on it and make an appointment.

  1. Your Brain on Drugs. We’ve all come to see the tremendous cost that pharmaceutical drugs can bring on us personally and as a collective. The opioid crisis has brought this awareness to the forefront of our consciousness. Even many commonly used “safe” over the counter medications carry risk. They are also poor long-term solutions for many Musculo-skeletal problems. I often refrain “if they worked, I wouldn’t have a job”. Most patients show up at my office after trying pain medications and muscle relaxers to no avail. This is when they consider trying other methods. Chiropractic is attractive because it has always attended to patients without drugs and/or surgery.

  2. Google (or your neighbor) knows less than your chiropractor. With so much information at our fingertips these days you would think that we might be smarter. But when it comes to searching your symptoms online it can be just the opposite. Internet searches often bring anxiety and confusion. It reminds me of my years in school studying pathology, imagining that I might have all these terrible diseases. And please stop listening to your Aunt Sally that has “the same exact thing you have and will always have”. She doesn’t! Research is now revealing how much our beliefs on pain and their origins (faulty or not) influence our experiences. Let a professional sort it out and stop wasting time not being well.

  3. The news is often good. While I can never guarantee results, I can honestly say that I enjoy my job because of the fantastic outcomes that I get to witness and be a part of. Most Musculo-skeletal problems when identified correctly, respond well to the right intervention and treatment protocol. Chiropractic can often be the most effective, safest, and lowest cost option. You need a well-trained chiropractor to be able to locate, identify, and coordinate the right approach to your pain problem.

  4. Time is of the essence. The longer you have the problem the more difficult it will be to resolve. Makes sense, right? Science is showing us that pain is more than just a signal telling us there is a problem. It can also be the brain “thinking” something might be wrong. This is an important distinction, because when the brain thinks there is a problem it starts to protect that area. This can lead to faulty movement and patterns. These dysfunctions start to re-train and re-map themselves within our brains and bodies. This is when chronicity can set in and where a vicious cycle of physical, mental, and emotional anguish can take hold. While such cases are difficult to reverse, it is not impossible. With the right approach, your nervous system can relearn. Chiropractors are proficient at both preventing and solving such complex chronic pain issues

You now have 4 good reasons why your chiropractor may be your best option when you are in pain. Consider visiting your chiropractor in the month of October. You will both feel good!
